Why this paper belongs in the notebook
Begin with two or three sentences explaining why the paper matters to the lab’s scientific questions. Focus on the conceptual contribution rather than reproducing the abstract.
What changed in our thinking?
Useful reading notes can distinguish among:
- a new biological observation;
- a method that changes what can be measured;
- a conceptual model that reorganizes existing evidence;
- a result that challenges an assumption; and
- an unresolved limitation that suggests a new experiment.
Questions to carry forward
Conclude with a small number of questions that connect the paper to future work. When a real paper is discussed, include its complete citation and a direct link to the publication.
